Capture the Record

After a roadside inspection, the carrier should organize the inspection report, driver notes, repair documentation if applicable and any internal follow-up items.

Look for Patterns

One inspection may point to a single issue. Repeated issues can show a training, maintenance or process pattern that needs corrective action.

Consider DataQs Carefully

A DataQs request should only be considered when there is a reasonable factual or documentation basis.

Practical Checklist

  • Save the inspection report.
  • Collect driver notes while details are fresh.
  • Document repairs or corrective actions where applicable.
  • Review whether driver coaching is needed.
  • Review whether the issue appears in CSA/SMS data.
  • Consider DataQs only when documentation supports it.
